Susan's Grandma (AKA Grandma #1) is doing her best to turn her family into Proper Bostonians. Its a difficult task and they slip occasionally, but she does seem to be making progress. She is seated in the middle row of the family portrait shown below, next to her husband, Grandpa #1, who mutters and growls at her frequently attempts to teach him manners. She is very pleased that, after living with all these rude, ill-mannered, uneducated "hicks", she is finally in a lovely Victorian home. For the first few months after getting the family back together again, she thought the situation was hopeless. She wants them all to be properly educated and to have good manners. It is easier now. She is home-schooling all of them. When the weather is warm, she brings the babies out to the garden and teaches them about flowers and nature. The Grandpas are teaching the boys all about bugs, snakes and worms. The Grandmas would prefer that they take the children bird watching, but recognize that culture and learning have to start somewhere! Last year Susan, their human person, got them a dozen tadpoles. They watched them with great excitement and fascination and were very excited when they turned into frogs. Baby still thinks the frog fairy was responsible! Uncle Sid (what a wild man) started to talk about sex and where babies come from, but Grandma, being sharp as a tack, quickly put a stop to that! There is nothing wrong with her hearing, unlike her husband's. He frequently seem to be stone deaf.
