Some of the people on the BeaniePhiles mailing list to which we used to belong are very artistic. Two of them obviously have poetic ability. Here is a sample of their work.

The first one was written by Erik for St. Patrick's Day and was widely applauded by the BeaniePhilers. Don't worry about Legs though. We are actually very good friends and we both thought this poem was pretty funny.

Down by the lake,
  It's silent tonight,
No popcorn, no peanuts,
  No green Miller Lite.
Sitting all alone,
  In his hollowed out log,
Poor lonely Legs,
    He's one woeful frog.
Quietly reflecting,
  On times that have passed,
Of St. Patty's Day parties,
  Which ended too fast.
The one day each year,
When it paid to be green,
The rich and the famous,
Called on him to be seen.
Just like the tides though,
  Fortunes, they fade,
Right when it seemed,
  That Legs had it made.
Along came a bear,
  Emerald green, named Erin,
So cute, so pretty,
  No one stopped staring.
As March 17th,
  Approached ever nearer,
The end of the line,
  Loomed clearer and clearer.
Legs waited in vain,
For the calls to come in,
Competing with Erin,
  He just couldn't win.
Green with jealousy,
  Or maybe it was pride,
By Tuesday evening,
  He just wanted to hide.
Feeling depressed,
  He begins to pout,
"Is this what retirement,
  Is all about?"
"This is it," he thinks,
"I'm at the end of my rope,"
Then suddenly a thought,
  Brings him new hope.
"In not too many days,
  I think we will find,
Boxes full of Erin,
  At only five, ninety-nine."
"By this time next year,
  With any kind of luck,
I'll be on eBay,
  For over a hundred bucks!"

The second poem is by Julie and could be titled "Ode to BeaniePhilers.

Listen closely boys & girls,
and I'll tell you a tale
Of zebras, lions, cats and dogs,
  and, yes, even a whale
It's such a strange phenomenon
  I'm sure you would agree
And when I ask what's all the fuss
  They say "It's a BEANIE"
A small toy stuffed with beans, I ask
  Oh you're pullin' my leg
I can't believe that such a toy
Could make one sit and beg
I tell them that I think they're nuts
  and I heard someone say:
"Yes I got Nuts and Pouch and Snort
  at Hallmark just today
They say it's fun and best of all
is the thrill of the chase
That sleet or snow or dark of night
will not slow down their pace
All this for beanies you ask
while some might shake their heads
"Oh YES" and here's the funny part
  some even make them beds
And clothes and hats and rocking chairs
  It's really quite a blast
And then I've heard them hope and pray
that all this fun will last
A month or two some say the most
they hope it's more than three
While spouses seem to always ask
  "Hun, where's all our money?"
Yes, boys & girls this story's true
  one quite hard to believe
Will Valentino stay or go
what else is up their sleeve????
All tense and loosing sleep at times
  for who they might retire
And taking out more insurance
in case there is a fire
There's Randy, Joe & Suzie, too
  Oh too many to write
One day I hope to meet them all
  Now that'd be a delight
Who is this group I hear you ask
who'll walk for miles and miles
THE BEST GROUP that I've ever met
  they're called the BEANIEPHILES!!!!!

A wonderful person named Megan, sent us this poem. Thanks, Megan!!!

Erin the Bear

A deep shade and a mystical flair,
this beanie baby had green hair.
Her coal black nose shone on with gleam,
I admit to you it seemed a dream.

A small symbol of luck bare on her breast,
she wore a red tag to accent the rest.
In accompaniment a small star shone,
as if to cast this dream in stone.

On this small creatures derriere
A tag seemed to flai and flair.
This bear had a certain mystique.
and believe me now it was unique.

As the wind blew I began to arise,
I felt something was wrong to my surprise.
There it was dancing around the tree,
I hadn't the faintest what it could be.

Once the haze of my dream began to fade.
It looked more and more like that bear had stayed.
I saw a glimmer which turned to a flash in my eye,
I knew it was the creature saying good bye

That was a story of dream come true
I'll never forget the experience I knew.
Hold on to your dreams strange as they may be,
One day unexpected you might see.......

Your wish from afar
had come to you from a star
from the heavens above,
brought to you full of love.
